Tiggy is a Jack Russell Terrier, who was rehomed form the Dogs Trust in Honiley in 2000, when she was around 8 years old. From the first week at home her favourite occupation was gardening. Digging large holes and pruning the flowers a speciality! Tiggy loves long, long walks and enjoys chasing rabbits, squirrels or anything else that runs away. Putting her on a lead near rabbit holes is always a good idea, otherwise she completely disappears. Camping holidays are particularly good, just one long walk with stops for food and sleep! She can twist us all round her little paws, one look from her expressive little face and we all move up to make room for her on the sofa.
Tiggy had slowed up during the last couple of months and at first everyone put it down to old age (after all, she is nearly 17)> At the very end of June she had an ear infection which didn’t appear to respond to treatment with antibiotics, in fact, she quickly became quite ill, refusing to eat or do anything. After an operation to clean up her ear and some blood tests, it was discovered that she had myeloma. Sian Davies, her vet, suggested drugs which would put her in remission and make her feel better. Tiggy was so poorly, refusing to eat and we were really worried. The Rainsbrook staff were fantastic, tempting her with everything they could think of, but to no avail. In the end they put in a feeding tube. On the day she eventually began to eat and we could bring her home, we were so excited. Her recovery has been amazing, and she is eating us out of house and home at the moment. She is virtually back to her old self, enjoying walks, fuss and gardening, in fact she was being a properly little monkey! We know her disease is not curable, but are so grateful to the wonderful Rainsbrook team for making Tiggy feel so much better and for giving us more time with our ‘best girl’
Many, many thanks to everyone at Rainsbrook
