I am Hawk Austin, and I used to be a lean, mean, racing machine! But in January 2000, I finished my racing career - I used to be really fast! I waited in my kennel for a human to take me home and in September 2000 it happend! Two humans arrived and took me for a walk, gave me a cuddle and a chocolate biscuit - yummy! Soon I was in their shining car heading to my new home.
I had to learn some manners because I was caught drinking out of the milk jug! My humans' mother was not amused! Soon I had a playmate - Katie (another greyhound from my kennel) came to live with me in November 2000 and we became best friends. We had a lovely time running around the garden and on the beach in Cornwall.
Sadly Katie became ill and went to heaven in April 2004. I still miss her dreadfully although I now have 3 more playmates: Poppy, Ben & Major.
In summer 2008, I did not feel very well. I didn't want to get out of bed and I didn't want to eat - not even my faviourite Chinese food! My humans were very worried and telephoned the vet. Two lovely ladies called Helena and Elaine came to see me at home as I cuoldn't get up and brought me to the hospital. I had to stay there for several days. I was very poorly :(
I was nursed back to health by a lovely nurse called Becky, who became quite attached to me while I was in her care, and why not? I'm very handsome!
When I was well enough to go home, my humans collected me and took me back to my playmates. I still had a big hole in my elbow from an infection and I did get a bit skinny. I now have to eat 3 meals a day - its really hard work but someones got to do it!!!! ;)
Helena (my vet) must really like me because she asks me to come back and see her every week! She is using the excuse that she wants to check my leg, but I reckon she just wants a cuddle every now and then!
I am much better now, and the hole is almost gone.
I maybe 13 years old, a bit wobbly on my legs and a bit slow, but as the syaing goes "there's life in the old dog yet!"
Love from Hawk
