Oscar is a four year old bearded collie who, like all beardies, is very playful, bouncy and extremely affectionate. oscar loves walks and exploring new places and is a huge fan of paddling at the seaside and camping. he is such a wonderful and charismatic dog, that when he became porrly, it was a very worrying and distressing time. After a few visits to the vet and a few abdominal scans, an obstrcution was detected in his stomach which needed urgent surgery to remove it. The surgery was a success but his recovery really was touch and go as he was very, very ill. Through the constant care provided by the staff at Rainsbrook Vets, Oscar began to recuperate and the day when he finally decided to eat something, and keep it down, was frankly the happiest day of my life!
I am pleased to say that Oscar is doing really well now and is enjoying rolling around in all the buttercups in the fields and after what was a very long and painful half-term for him and me, we are re-organinsg our trip to the seaside for later this year!
Thank you to all the dedicated team at the practice

NOTE FROM THE NURSES:
Oscar came into the surgery as he was having trouble with vomiting alot and his owner was concerned.
He was admited initially for fluids and the following day x-rays were taken. After another 24 hours, further x-rays were taken and it was found that Oscar had a lot of gas in his intestines which was not dissapating, so it was decided that he had eaten something he should not have had, and that we needed to operate on him.
So, on the Sunday evening, Sian (one of our vets and a Director) and Becky (Head Nurse) gave Oscar an anaesthetic and performed an exploratory laparotomy. A stick was removed from his intestines! OUCH!
Oscar came round well from his anaesthetic, but the following few days were very crucial to him as his intestines were so bruised and damaged, and he therefore was very poorly. All the vets and the nurses worked hard to ensure Oscar recovered from his surgery, even administering a plasma transfusion to help him feel better and aid his recovery.
Oscar's owner came in every day to visit him and tried to encourage him to eat, as did the nurses, but to no avail. Oscar was feeling miserable and had lost a lot of weight, he looked like a furry bag of bones..
Then finally, he decided to eat some biscuits and a Dentistik during the night! Of course he would eat when no one there watching! Everyone was so excited!
Once he started eating there was no stopping him, and so we were able to send him home and we are pleased to report he is back to his normal weight!
We are so thrilled that Oscar has now recovered well and is back to his usual self.
