This veterinary practice was founded over 45 years ago by Sandy Lyons. David Walker took over in 1985 and was joined by Simon Daniel in 1992, first as an assistant and then as a partner from 1995.
Sian Davies joined the practice as an assistant in 1999 and became a director in August of 2006.
As a 'mixed ' practice in Warwickshire, we deal with both companion animals and livestock, from the smallest hamster to the largest Shire horse.
There are two fully equipped surgeries, one in Leamington Spa that also houses a state of the art canine hydrotherapy/swimming pool, and one in Rugby. There is a further branch surgery also in Rugby at Craven Road.
The farm and equine side of the practice cover an area of about 450 square miles around these two towns, mainly in Warwickshire but also covering parts of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
At each site there is a dedicated team of Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses, trained Veterinary Receptionists and a Practice Manager.
All of our staff work together as one team striving to provide a professional and friendly service for you and your animals in a relaxed atmosphere.
Who to Talk To?
We are here to help you and your pet have a long and fruitful life together.
All of our staff are able to give general advice about the care of animals (e.g. feeding, grooming, and minor problems) so please feel free to ask any questions, no matter how trivial you may feel they are.
If you are unsure whether to bring your pet to the surgery you can always speak to a receptionist or nurse first, who can ascertain if an appointment with a Veterinary Surgeon or nurse is necessary. They will always refer to a Veterinary Surgeon if there is any doubt.
If you have a query regarding your bill please speak to Becci Young RVN, Practice Manager in the first instance: Rugby 01788 542221.
If you have a query or are unsure about your pet’s treatment then please speak to the Veterinary Surgeon concerned, or to one of the partners.
We are committed to providing the best possible service and take any comment or complaint seriously. We operate a complaints procedure to ensure that any problems are dealt with promptly and fairly. Please speak to a member of staff, ask at reception for a complaints form, or write to the Practice Manager if you feel you have a valid grievance.
Facilities
The surgeries are fully equipped and computerised to provide the best veterinary care, diagnostics and treatment, both medical and surgical.
A whole variety of diagnostic aids are available, such as radiography (x-rays), ultrasound, endoscopy, ECG (electrocardiogram), EMG (electromyelogram) and, at Rugby , an on-site laboratory. These facilities allow a rapid and comprehensive investigation of any problems your pets might have.
We are constantly trying to upgrade or update our equipment and facilities. To this end 2003 saw us relocate our Leamington Surgery to more spacious accommodation and this has allowed us to open a swimming pool for dogs allowing hydrotherapy treatments and exercise for all shapes and sizes of dogs. The pool was refurbished and extended in October 2006
Our full suite of medical and surgical facilities is supported by a safe, clean, and comfortable hospital environment for your pets to recover from surgery or illness.
RCVS Practice Standards Scheme
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) regulates the veterinary profession. This includes individual Veterinary Surgeons and, more recently, the practices in which the veterinary team works. You might have seen MRCVS after a vet's name - that means they are a member of the RCVS and qualified to practise in the UK. We are a Tier 2 small Animal Practice.
What's RCVS accreditation
Practices can become accredited under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme, a voluntary quality assurance programme (Started in 2005).
To be accredited, practices must pass a rigorous inspection carried out by an experienced Veterinary Surgeon. Areas covered include hygiene, health and safety, and the facilities and equipment provided, to name just a few of the many criteria.
- An accredited practice is inspected every four years
- It must certify annually that it continues to meet the standards
- It may be subject to spot-checks between full inspections
What does it mean for me and my pets
RCVS accreditation means
- Peace of mind for you
- Quality care for your animals
- Regular inspections for the practice
The practice standards Scheme is a voluntary initiative - not all practices are part of it yet. As a client of an RCVS accredited practice, you can rest assured of a high quality of care throughput the practice.
